He was the lightest of them all - Being the youngest gave him that advantage. And then there was the fact that he was barely ten years old - And she the most skilled when it came to wirework. Her fingers were nimble and small, Hiruzen once explained. She could weave her braids quickly, making them sturdy against the rest. In terms of chakra strings, there was no one stronger in the village. Or so was Minato's belief. Mei, however, held her doubts. But then, they weren't his strings that Kakashi was tip-toeing across.
"Are you sure about this, Blondie?" Dark eyes peered out from their hiding spot and watched intently for the first sign of trouble. A quick snap of her wrist would be all she'd need to pull the young shinobi back from the brink of death.
Beside her, the elder man trained his eyes on the figures pacing along the ground. Only once did she see him glance up at his silver-haired student. "He knows what he's doing."
A tremor against the wire attached to her fingers drew Mei's attention. And just as her eyes zeroed in on the figure in the darkness, she saw him wobble and flail to regain balance. An adjustment of his chakra control and he righted himself once more, moving along at a quicker speed towards palace at the other end. All the while, the leaves blew and the string swayed in the night's storm.
The kunoichi scoffed softly into the wind. "Remind me never to trust you with my life."
