Through the years, he had proven to be a difficult man to work with. The most difficult, if the young woman were to be completely truthful with herself and with him. She often never was, though. He was bad enough to deal with on a regular basis. Purposely giving him a reason to be arrogant and irritable with her would bump him up to being near impossible. And she refused to be lumped together with everyone else in his disdain. He was a solitary figure from the start, after all, and uncooperative when it came to sharing the load of a mission and getting the job done. He had made it clear from the start that he would rely on no one but himself; that he trusted none other than himself. And for all his flaws and barriers and walls that he had built up, it would have been all to easy for her to request another partner to start her career with. But Tenten stayed, and not once did she ever regret that decision.

Not even now.

"Sasuke!"

Especially, not now.

Never had she seen the virus corrupt the bloodstream and body so quickly once it had ran it's course through the system. Or maybe she had simply been too busy with keeping them moving and away from hungry scavengers to notice the changes. As stubborn and hard-headed as he could be, it would have been more than easy to hide the progression. She would've done the same thing in his shoes. But that wasn't the issue. The changes were still happening and they were running out of time to reverse it. And Tenten was all alone in this fight.

Gun still poised to shoot, she took a step back. And in a last desperate moment to stall the inevitable, Tenten followed that step and ran.

A blood freezing screech and thundering footsteps following indicated that he rushed to follow after.

The remains of Akatsuki Corp. Labs was labyrinth of broken halls and levels upon levels of secrets. She would only need the first tier or two in order to keep her distance from him. What she would do if and when he caught up would be left up until then. Whether she would still remain herself until then, only the Gods would know. But if there had been one benefit of training under Maito Gai during basics, it was that he had made them run. And run and run and run. Lee was most certainly the quickest of them, but Tenten was a close second, to be sure.

She rounded a corner at breakneck speed with him on her heels. And then suddenly the wall to her right broke into a shower of rubble. Pieces of wood and plaster sprayed out and scratched against her skin. Splinters tore and streaked across the young woman's face until she felt like it was torn to shreds. The next thing she knew, there was this massive weight pushing her aside - throwing her against the further wall - knocking the wind out of her lungs and nearly crushing every bit of bone on her right sided. And with no energy left in her limbs, the young woman crumpled to the ground like a deflated balloon. Only to feel warm and slimy fingers grip her by the neck and pressing her against the wall once more, lifting her up high enough that her feet struggled to touch ground.

When the dust cleared, she found herself face to face with a nightmare.
