Dedicated to: Hinata. She needs some love too~
"Where was it again?" she muttered quietly to herself.
Tenten had only gotten a slip of paper, the number of Hinata's dorm room scribbled across it in his neat handwriting -- always so neat, yet another thing to remind her of his more than proper upbringing -- before Neji had left on his trip. And the young woman had received it with a promise that she would look after his cousin while he was gone, thinking that nothing could possibly go wrong while he was away. Man, was she wrong.
It did not take her long to hear about Hinata's less than fun encounter with one Inuzuka Kiba. And that had sent the young Tenten into a fit of concern, both for the injured girl and for herself. Admittedly, mostly for herself. "Neji is SO gonna kill me for this..." Because she was certain that Kiba had made sure that she was fine and taken care of before he left on his own business. And if not, he would never hear the end of it.
"206...206...2...A-ha! 206!" And that little exclamation earned her a few odd looks from the other residence of the girl's dorm. But all that was lost to Tenten as she promptly gave a light knock on the door. "...I hope she knows who I am...other wise, this is gonna be really weird."
Hinata had been dozing off in her papasan, left leg propped up with a heating pad wrapped on it. It had surprised her how badly she'd bruised just from falling off the bike like she had, but she was grateful it hadn't been any worse. Otherwise she might have had to tell her father on his weekly check in call and she knew that wouldn't have gone over very well. It really wasn't that big of a deal, just something to make getting around a bit more of a hassle. So the shy girl had taken this as the perfect excuse to hide from the world a bit longer. The only problem being the near endless boredom that comes with sequestering oneself in their room.
So when the knock at the door came it was more then a little surprising. Neji was supposed to be on vacation still, and Hinata didn't think anyone else knew where she lived. "Just a moment." she called out, getting up carefully to open the door, peeking around it shyly at the girl on the other side. "Anou... c-can I help you?"
"Uh...hi." Granted, she was not exactly sure if Neji had bothered to inform Hinata that Tenten was left to check up on her while he was away. And of course, that train of though did not bother to show itself until now. While she stood face to face with the white-eyed girl for the first time. So it was with a somewhat nervous scratch at her temple that Tenten gave her best, friendly smile. "My name is Tenten, and I...was...just..."
It should not have been this hard to say why she was there. But it was. Because that less than knowing expression on the other's face was enough of an indication to let her know that Hinata more than likely had no clue as to who she was, let alone why she was there in the first place. "You're...probably wondering who I am, aren't you? Great."
"W-well... a little..." Hinata had no idea who this person was knocking on her door. Perhaps she was lost? That would explain it. She was probably looking for someone else. Unless there was some kind of complaint against her. "If I-I've been doing something to offend you, I'm very sorry."
She blushed as she stood there, half hidden by the door. The name sounded familiar somehow but she couldn't quite place it. "D-do I... know you?"
"Oh, no, you've got it all wrong! I'm not here to complain or anything, I just...I...uh...heh..." With what could only be considered as a frazzled smile, she tried her best to put into words her reasons for being there. However, the problem was that anything the young girl could come up with made absolutely no sense. No, this was definitely not turning out the way she had planned. Then again, Tenten had not exactly planned anything.
Alright, time to start over. Because that certainly could not have been a very good introduction, or even a decent start the start of one if she thought Tenten was here to complain about anything Hinata might have done. On the contrary, from what she had heard of the younger Hyuuga, she was every bit the shy caterpillar she appeared as now.
"Um...let me try this again." In what she hoped was a more proper and less...threatening manner, Tenten gently held out her hand for the other to take. "Hi, my name is Tenten. I'm...friends with your cousin Neji."
A friend of Neji's? That was certainly not expected. "Oh! Well um... h-hello then." Hinata reached out, taking the offered hand and giving it a light squeeze. "I'm sorry, I wasn't really expecting anyone." She stepped to the side to let her step in from the hallway.
It was a typical dorm room, small and cramped with furniture and books, but she tried to keep it clean and comfortable. Hinata fidgeted a little, not quiet sure what she should do next. "You can make yourself comfortable... um. Is there, anything I can get you?"
Well, things were looking better than before, that was for sure as Tenten returned the gesture with a light squeeze and quick handshake of her own. And it was then that she was finally able to note the ivory gleam that seemed to be very much a family trait among those of the Hyuuga brood, at least from what little she had seen through the years. The familiar upbringing focus on proper manners was definitely there as she kindly stepped into the other's dorm room. However, at first glance, that seemed to be where the resemblance ended.
Where Neji might have given a subtle look of irritation with his invite, Hinata seemed genuine in her politeness. A good sign indeed, especially considering that Tenten would no doubt have to tell her about the promise she had made. "Actually, I should be asking you that question."
A shake of her head indicated that she would decline a seat for now. The situation would be better explained if she were standing, able to move and/or pace around as she spoke. "You're probably not aware, but I...sort of made a promise to your cousin that I would look after you while he was gone. And I...heard about what happened with Kiba..." Thinking it appropriate, she paused to give Hinata enough time to process and react to the information she had just been giving, hoping beyond hope that it would not upset the other too much.
Hinata blanched visibly at this news. People knew what happened with Kiba? Oh and if Neji's friends knew what happened then chances were quite likely that Neji knew as well. "Y-you... know what happened with Kiba?" Of course she did, didn't she just say as much? Looking a bit shocked at this she made her way back to the papasan, quiet obviously favoring her left left before settling down heavily in it.
"He's not happy about it is he?" Neji must be upset with her, if he was sending someone else to look after her instead of coming on his own. But wait, he couldn't have come anyways."Anou... isn't Neji-ni still on vacation?" Hinata hadn't heard from him since before he left, but she thought he was to be gone for a little longer.
The blanch was hard not to notice. But it was a well deserved reaction considering the circumstances. Frankly, Tenten was just a bit surprise that Hinata was handling it this well. "Yeah, I'm a friend of Kiba's and he sort of told me what happened when I asked him about his own scratches."
From what little the rambunctious Inuzuka had let her see, there had only been a few scraps and bruises here and there, relatively normal for someone as active as he tended to be. Of course, Kiba's injuries were minor compared to Hinata's, just more scars and battle wounds to add to his already growing collection.
"As for Neji, you can relax, at least for now. He doesn't know a thing. I'm just here to keep my promise and see if you're alright." And Tenten could not help but flinch just a bit at how that sounded, that she was only checking in because of an obligation and not because she was generally concerned about the other girl. But as things stood, Tenten had only heard Hinata in the briefest of details and only met her for the first time a few minutes ago. Had things been different and the two had know each other prior to the accident, Tenten would have gone on her own, regardless of any agreement she had made with Neji. " Although I suspect he will notice and ask about it when he comes back and sees you limping."
