With a cough, Mei attempted to clear her lungs of the black powder that seemed to fill the air of its odor and texture, waving away the dusty clouds it seemed to create as she continued to pour it into the white cloth.

"Are... you sure that's not too much, Kushina?"

"Nonsense! There's no such thing as too much gun powder!."

But even as she poured the last of the powder into the doll, covering the opening with the plug before tying off the head, Mei could not help but look at the other woman skeptically. Even from a novice's perspective, there was a clear and undeniable difference between the two carefully concealed bombs.

"Besides, the other ingredients I added should neutralize most of the blast."

"B-but... your teru-teru-bozu doesn't look anything like mine..."

"Meh," the red-head responded, waving off the issue, "It all ends up the same way."

And as she picked up both off of the counter, the young Sarutobi could only look on warily as they both trekked out the back door of the shop to the forging area. Bombs were a dangerous business. Powdered bombs, even more so. It took the a certain amount of knowledge and patience to mix the right combination of chemicals to get it just right. And this had only been Mei's second lesson.

Taking the one she had made, Kushina carefully tossed the weather doll into the fire and quickly closed the steel-enforced door. They only had to wait a few seconds before there was a small boom, a small rumble against the door before a puff of dark smoke exited out of the top. "There, you see? Not so hard. Now you try."

Furrowing her brows, Mei hesitated and looked to her friend for support. Sure, it was simple and easy for Kushina. She had already started to make a career out of it, slowly perfecting her art and cultivating it so that most if not all endeavors were executed to perfection. Mei, on the other hand, was still a beginner. And quite possibly insanely out of her mind for even agreeing to trying it out for herself.

"Oh come on, quit being such a princess."

And that did it. Whether it had been Kushina's intention or not, she had hit a sore spot for Mei. As the Sandaime's daughter, her treatment was nothing less than privileged. And while others might have seen the glamour in such things, she only knew of the endless pressure and hassle of reminding them to treat her as any other of the village. Shinobi were supposed to be unnoticed after all.

"...Fine."

Mimicking what Kushina had done before, Mei tossed her weather doll into the flames and quickly shut the door of the furnace without another thought. And they waited. And waited. And waited still until Mei began to wonder if her mixture had just been too thick for the flames to light up. Then there came the familiar hiss of burning powder, their only signal before the forge completely imploded, door flying off over their heads, walls crumbling onto itself when the weakened structure could hold on no longer. Only when the dust and smoke cleared could they finally assess the full damage.

"...That. Was. AWESOME!" In her excitement, Kushina turned to grab her companion by the arms, a bright and somewhat scary -- masochistic was more like it -- expression written across her face. "Do it again!"

Sighing in exasperation and dread, Mei winced as the last remains of her teru-teru-bozu disappeared in a puff. "...Shirou's gonna kill me."
