Dedicated to: Actually...This was all for me. Lol, and Mei-muse too~ ♥

Shiny things had always caught her interest. Even from a rather young age, she had always been drawn to the allure and luster of objects reflecting the brilliance of the sun's light. Sharp and shiny things made from metal were ideal. And as Mei strolled breathlessly through the neat displays of the shop, it was safe to say that she was in a state of euphoric bliss. Swords and knives of varying design. Daggers of every shape and size imaginable. And a number of other weapons that were a rarity to be seen in this part of the world. She could have spent years -- a lifetime -- walking the earth and through the varying shinobi nations, and still she would not have been able to gather such a collection as this.

"You...made all of these?"

He merely nodded after a moment of thought. Somewhere in the background, she heard the prominent shing of a fuuma shuriken unfolding, a resounding snap as the blades locked into place. And the very echo of it drew his attention in an instant. Like a hunting cat seeking out his prey.

"You already lost one, Kushi-chan," he called back in his richly toned, voice, "You're not getting another one."

"Like you're not gonna to make me another set when I turn Jounin," the young red-head countered, an air of confidence ever laced in her words. And Mei could not help but snicker at the exasperated sigh he gave.

"...That's beside the point."

Another sigh passed his lips as the former Uzu shinobi brushed him off without another word.

"Sorry," Shirou apologized, turning his attention back to her, "You were saying?"

"I'm a bit surprised," she admitted, "Not a lot of places have such a variety of weapons, even around here."

And even as she said so, Mei reached out a hand to lightly run her fingers along the finely crafted metal that coiled and encircled around a sword hilt, only one of many that had been placed out to be appreciated and admired by any who dared to come inside.

Her hand jerked back a little in alarm when he reached out as well, taking the weapon off of the stand and presented it to her for a closer viewing. "I've... traveled quite a bit in my young life."

"I'll say." Though hesitant at first, Mei was quick to overcome it as the overwhelming urge to indulge in her facy took control and the kunoichi took the sword -- sheath and all -- into her own hands. "Some of these designs I've only seen on the very outskirts of the known shinobi nations."

It was beautiful, made of the finest steel she had ever seen. It held a particular style that seemed signature to those that had been crafted by his hands, much like the weapons that she had been able to study in Kushina's hospital room. And yet at the same time, there was a timeless quality that could be found in it, a sense of tradition and legacy held within the specific design and culture that it mimicked. And as the kunoichi slowly slide the sword from its sheath, she felt a thrill unlike any other to be able to hold such a masterpiece in her grip.

"...You've an eye for weaponry?"

"I do. And... apparently so do you."

And in that moment, she gave him a gentle sort of look. Of recognition. Of approval. Of admiration that was, perhaps, beyond anything she had ever given another. But rather than feel flush about it, Mei could only feel a sense of satisfaction as his gaze seemed to return the sentiment. The moment was soon broken, however, by a clatter of metal near the back of the shop, sweeping him away from her to settle the matter with one Uzumaki Kushina. But it had been enough. At least for Mei.

Indeed. Shiny things had always caught her interest. And the swords were not so bad either.
