With a small shift of her jaw, Tenten stood up from where she sat beside him and ended their long pause of silence. "You're five minutes are up."
"Funny, I thought you were only giving me three." His voice came out as a flat, deadpan sort of tone that almost reminded her of... well, him. Then again, the young mutant supposed with a little sliver of fondness, the two of them had always possessed a lot of the same traits and mannerisms, at least from her perspective. And maybe that was why they had always gotten along so well. And why their relationship seemed to always be a perpetual balancing act between contently happy and chaotically troubled; or in this case, helplessly confused. But that was what they had her there for, wasn't it?
Smirking at his response, she shoot back with a rather biting quip of her own. "I thought you only needed one."
Alfred scoffed in return and lightly shook his head at their banter. But despite the smile that graced the smooth lines of his face, she could tell that therer was still a bit of strain and control in his actions. He was still watching and waiting for her to decide whether or not she believed his story. And while, normally, Tenten was not usually one to make another suffer unnecessarily, there was some satisfaction -- some feeling of retribution -- in seeing the younger blond squirm a little in his own skin. After all, Naruto was suffering a lot more than he was ever willing to show or admit.
"So, now that you know everything, you mind unlocking that?"
Now, it was her turn to be frank and flat in her response. "No. I'm not done with you yet."
That said, the young girl raised her hand into the air and quickly turned her wrist with a quick snap. At the same time, something within the door seemed to slide and roll into place as well, giving an ominous, hollow sound as the only indication that anything had happened at all. Whether by some trick of the light or as the result of her own imagination, it almost seemed as if other had actually paled a shade or two in reaction and Tenten couldn't help but grin internally at the thought.
"So... let me get this straight," the young mutant began, "He... told you that he loved you."
"Yeah."
"And you..." - And for an instance, Tenten felt a small pang of sympathy as Alfred seemed to cringe at the word when it came slowly out of her mouth. Like how Naruto used to when they were younger and he was getting scolded by Jiraiya. - "...didn't say it back. You didn't say anything."
There was a short pause as the young man seemed to shift in his seat at hearing those words out loud. And then, after another few seconds, Alfred gave a long sigh before giving a quiet mumble of a response. "...Yeah."
Her brows furrowed at that, finding the skin around her knuckles already hardening before she mustered enough control to still the reaction, though there was no stopping her hand from clenching into a loose fist. -- Better a fleshy fist than a steel encased one, she supposed. -- It was none of her business what he did, she knew. This was their affair and something that the two of them needed to figure out on their own. At the same time, both were known for being straight forward and frank individuals... except when it came to each other, apparently. And the only way they could get to that point was with a gentle push in the right direction.
And so, instead of giving in to her physical need to knock some sense into the blond wrecking ball, Tenten settled for asking the one question she was sure he had been asking himself since the incident. "Why not?"
"I... I don't know." His face had lit up in that instance, like he had just received a moment of revelation where all the answers simply came so easily and flawlessly. And then, just as quickly as the instance had come, it was gone. And Alfred seemed to deflate at the undeniable truth that he was faced with. He didn't have the answers. At least not yet. "I just... didn't."
Tenten snerked at that. "I noticed."
From the corner of her eye, she saw his figure shift, a splash of blue followed by a glint of sun in the blur of the background indicating that he had turned his glance to her; probably in a muffled glare to contend against Tenten's last remark. Indeed, she thought with a quiet exhale of breath, so much like him. And that, perhaps, was the most difficult part for her. With such a strong connection between the two, it was hard for Tenten not to feel sympathetic to his dilemma. But at the same time, her loyalty and friendship would always go to Naruto first. Because without him, she would have been resigned to remain in that orphanage in Los Angeles for another two years before her Uncle had managed to track her down.
Tenten owed Naruto a great deal for that singular act.
It was with that thought in mind that she turned towards the mutant seated in front of her, lips drawn straight and brows pinched just slightly above the bridge of her nose. And in the firmest voice she could put forth, made her choice and decided to support them both through this problem. Because there couldn't be one without the other. And if he made Naruto happy, then it was her job to see to it that he had the means to do so.
"Well, figure it out, Mountain Sage, or you're gonna lose your little Wind Demon forever," was the young girl's answer, reaching out to gently ruffle the tuff of hair on his head, "As you well know, he's not a very patient person."
"Pfft," came his reaction a moment later, concentrating mostly on waving her hand away from its destructive gesture of affection, "I'll keep that in mind, oh great Celestial Heaven. Thanks."
