semchance. They can be cute together any time you want. ♥
Much like most other profound milestones in their relationship, she had been the one to make the first move. To give that singular push for something more than what he was giving at the time. It was who she was and the role that she initially played when it came to what they had. But there was nothing forceful about it. Because it had been an unspoken agreement that if he was not comfortable -- if he was not ready -- she would stop without question. Only then would Tenten learn his limitations. Only then would Shino know -- understand -- her level of control.
But even order and restraint could sometimes fall prey to temptation. To desire. And Tenten was only human.
He was nervous. And perhaps, she added as an afterthought, a bit overwhelmed. After all, being shoved against the nearest wall and having your mouth practically devoured tended to have that effect. But still, that did little to overshadow his anxiety. She could see his apprehension. Could feel his disquiet. Not in anything all too obvious, but in the smallest of signs. Because with Abruame Shino, his thoughts and actions were nothing but small little indications hidden in a sea of blank passivity. Little quirks that usually went unseen by the normal eye. And Tenten noticed them all. Years of being together allotted that privilege of reading the hidden signals of his body. Of his behavior and what, exactly, was going through the young man's over analytical mind. And they were sending a clear message.
Shino wanted this just as much as she did. The soft yet heated trail of his mouth down along the column of her neck was telling of that. But the brief press of his lips against Tenten's skin were stiff. Controlled and calculative as they centered around the areas he knew she would be most receptive. They told another story. His barriers were still building themselves up and separating his conscious from the experience out of instincts. Running on knowledge alone instead of passion. Detaching himself from the world, as it were, so that he could view the situation from a strictly scientific perspective. And for that reason among a thousand others, he had been able to draw her attention. But much to his confusion, it was also one of his more double-edged traits that frustrated Tenten the most as well.
"Stop thinking," she whispered softly, letting her breath caress the curves of his ear. And with the sole intention of distracting him, the young woman proceeded to gently run the tip of her tongue along the rim of his lobe. An action that was well received as the hand resting at the small of her back gently pressed Tenten a fraction more against his taller frame. To which she could only cradle his cheek in her palm in reaction and continued with her lecture. "This isn't an experiment you can observe and analyze about. This is about so much more than that."
In order to prove her point, Tenten brushed her lips over the curve of his jaw and slowly descended along the slope of the young man's neck. Letting them linger and languish over the skin. Giving the nerves just enough attention to stir up a reaction to the foreign touch before she moved on to the next patch of his body. All the while, the young woman could feel the warmth of his hands as they moved. Explored, in a way as they traced along the slim lines of her back. Her sides. Her hips. Mapping them out and committing them to memory, perhaps. Yet there was a shakiness to how his fingers spayed across her spine. A rigidness with how his palm glided around her shoulder to rest in the space between her shoulder blades.
And then came the simple exhale of breath.
To any one else, it was just that. A natural breath of air that occurred almost automatically as the lungs and diaphragm constricted and released to the rhythm of ones body. But Tenten knew better than to believe that of Shino.
He was trying not to compartmentalize the experience. And failing, ultimately frustrating himself for the attempt. Which only stilled her own efforts.
Tenten pulled back from where she had previously been nuzzling the crook of his neck and looked the young man in the eyes. "If you want me to stop, I will."
"I know."
Typical response. And one she had expected. But in his defense, she had said it more as a statement rather than an offer. Or so Tenten rationalized in her mind. It could have been easy for Shino to misinterpret. With their emotions as charged as they were, it was probably easy for either one of them to misinterpret a lot of things. "Do you want us to stop?"
"...No. But..." She could see the struggle in his eyes to try and find the words to explain to her -- to explain to himself -- what he wanted. What he felt. But while Aburame Shino did, indeed, have emotions to analyze and contemplate, his heart and his mind rarely conflicted. And in a battle of importance and influence, the mind always won out in the end.
All that Tenten needed to know was that he hesitated. "...You're still not ready."
"...No."
It was like a sledgehammer to her heart, hearing those words, though part of her already knew they were never too far behind. And normally, things would go one as they usually did. She would smile and nuzzle gently into the crook of his neck, whispering honest sentiments of how everything would be alright. He would sweep back a few strands of hair from her face and lightly press his lips against her forehead in thanks for obliging with his request to keep the barriers up a little while longer. But this had been different. She had almost gone too far; would have pushed further it she had not felt the slight tremble in his fingers against her back as he held her close.
Realizing all this, she let out a long and steady breath. And then it was with a steady hand that she cupped his face and placed a light kiss on the curve of his cheek, murmuring in a whispered tone. "I'm sorry."
Patience was a virtue, it was said. But it was also a lesson in life that everyone needed to learn. And for his sake, Tenten made a promise, both to him and to herself, that she would. Because animalistic desires and the natural instinct to satisfy them meant nothing if they both couldn't enjoy the moment together. And Tenten was willing to wait for that.

Seriously, though, you've always had such a comfortable grasp on both of them, and your fics always turn out basically exactly the way I think they will (which I mean in a good way--consistent characters, believable circumstances, vivid internal consciousness). Thank you for giving me so many lovely things to browse when I miss their silly flirting~

My dear... I write them because I miss their adorkable geekery and get into a brief bout of 'THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE IF IT IN THE WORLD'. Plus, writing them reminds me of my play-times with you
in a non-creeper way, I promise. Tenten has been my baby for 4+ years. And as for Shino... well, I have to say that while I did have my own ideas on Shino's characteristics, they were strengthened and solidified by your portrayal of him. So, in part, I owe these fics to you. Which is convenient since they are, partially specifically written for you, my love. ♥ And it helps that you've given me plentiful inspiration to continue with their cute despite not being able to talk to you as often as before. 6n6
