Despite being pulled along by her childhood friend and companion, Tifa could hardly take notice of Cloud's firm grip on her slender wrist. Neither the tightness of which his gloved fingers pressed around the bone, nor the cool numbness of her own fingers at the lack of circulation seemed as important in that instance. Escape was top priority. All around them there flitted shadows of those who had managed to flee the terror of the village as well. Neighbors. Friends. People the both of them had known since they were children playing games of treasure-seeking glory and adventure. Of imaginary monsters waiting to devour them all into the darkness until a valiant warrior stepped up to ensure their safety.

Reality, she realized, was not so glamorous.

After all, this was not a fairytale story. There was no treasure. No knight in shining armor to come and rescue them all from destruction. No assurance of a happy ending. Only what they could manage on their own once they had time to rest and regroup. After they were done running from the Heartless who were set on capturing them all.

Still, amid all the rush and calamity, Tifa could not help but give one last fleeting glance back towards the only home she had ever known. At all the people they were forced to leave behind in order to save themselves. And with the sight of the flames slowly enveloping all that she once knew and loved in its blazing heat, the young girl could only whimper as she tried to stifle the cries of sorrow that welded up in her throat. Fought the tears that threatened to fall from her deep brown eyes.

But now was not the time. She would let herself cry for them when they were safe.

"Come on, Tifa," Cloud urged on, ever clutching tightly to her hand as he pushed forward. Ever forward.

He was right, of course. The Heartless would be surrounding them soon if she did not commit herself to running. And if they were to be captured. Then there would be no hope of escape for any of them. So it was with sadness and whatever strength of will residing in her soul that the young girl followed close behind him. Even though her heart remained behind with the village. And the one person she could never leave behind.

"...I'll come back for you, dad."
