Dedicated to: HAPPY BIRTHDAY KUSHINA~!!! 8D

Knowledge, to Mei, was one of the most important tools a shinobi could possess. More important than training. More important than perfecting various jutsu or other techniques. To possess more of it meant having the ability to develop a better strategy. A more thought-out plan that would ensure a team's success on a mission. Because long after the body exhausts every last bit of energy and chakra, with a strong mind still in play, there is always hope of coming out the victor in a battle. And with such direct access to a vast collection of information -- with a father as renown and influential as Sarutobi Hiruzen -- it made sense that she would put more value in a person's intelligence rather than their physical strength.

And there was no better time to trust in that belief.

"Look out!"

It was all the time and warning they were given, darting off in three different directions without a second thought as the watery serpent came crashing down on where they had stood only moments before. A close call in Mei's opinion, but one of many that they had already faced since the pursuit began. And in the next breath, they managed to regrouped a distance away, hidden in the thick foliage of the forest that surrounded the top edge of the cove just on the other side of the hill. Just like the one that surrounded the Hidden Leaf Village.

A small advantage for them while within the borders of Mist, but Mei would take every one available if it meant coming home alive and successful.

Crouching low on the branch, the kunoichi carefully peered out from behind the tree. Just in time to see the area explode in a bright flash of light. A bomb, courtesy of her red-tempest of a friend, the force of which was enough to break the jutsu. Effective, as always. But there were still the shinobi from Mist to contend with. Still, the distraction it would do well to delay the enemy from finding them. And hopefully it would be enough time for them to think up a plan.

"Still think it was a good idea to leave the brat behind?" Kushina mumbled, her tone filled with a sort of cheekiness she was known for. To which Minato responded with the usual look he gave the kunoichi when her sarcasm was being more annoying than helpful. "What? I'm just saying, lightning would come in handy while dealing with the Mist-nins, that's all."

True enough. And Mei would have supported her on that thought. But at that moment as her mind was allowed to finally rest and take the entire situation into perspective, a thought occurred. One that sparked an idea. It was all a matter of science, after all. Of knowing your elements and how different combinations could work together to form new possibilities. Granted, it was perhaps an unconventional way of thinking, but given the circumstances, their choices were extremely limited.

"I know how we can make lightning."

She had seen what Kushina and Minato could do with their combined forces. When water and wind came together to face off against a common foe. It had been on one of her first missions as a Chuunin, and one of the hardest assignments any of them had ever taken. None of them expected to find much when they arrived at the ruins of Uzu. After all, there was a reason why the entire village had been forced to evacuate. But it was still devastating to see the damage first hand. And that was when their small team of shinobi crossed paths with Iwa scouts still combing the area for survivors. And where they were forced to fight their way back into the borders of Fire Country.

It was true that Mei was more proficient in Earth-style jutsu. But she held some control with Fire as well. And with a bit of imagination, if it were possible to add that to the raging storm that the other two could create...

"What's going on in that head of yours, Hime-chan?"

Here, Mei smirked. "You'll see..."
