sealedflight, the best Cloud Strife a girl could ever ask for~ ♥♥♥
When he had given her that confused look, she had been perfectly fine. And when he tilted his head curiously at the neatly decorated box, the girl still managed to remain calm. It was only when Cloud lifted the lid of the box and casually sifted through the thin tissue paper that Tifa felt her heart begin to race. And in that moment, there was the thought to simply snatch it back and retreat before any consequences could arise from this. He would never know what was hidden under the layers of fodder and they would never have to speak of this moment ever again.
It was not as if he had expected to receive a gift from her. Not today. Perhaps not ever.
But before she could even move to reach her hand out, the young boy was already pulling it out of the box and into the light for a better look. The bright color contrasted rather beautifully against the white backdrop of the village and the snow-capped mountain tops. And more importantly, it was something that he would be able to use. Daily if the conditions were right.
"A... scarf?" he inquired with a simple glance.
"It's... been getting a little colder lately," the young girl tried to explain, albeit a bit hesitantly, "I just... thought it would help."
Cloud seemed to take that into consideration as he glanced at the scarf again, turning it over in his gloved hands. Perhaps to see if there were any specific design along the edges. There were none. Tifa had never reached that point in her lessons. "Red?"
"It... was the only color we had in the house."
She sighed softly at that simple and truthful excuse, thinking it a little silly despite the honesty that was etched within the words. And in spite of herself or how proud she had been after finishing the scarf, the girl fidgeted in embarrassment under his gaze. Hoped that he would mistake the blush in Tifa's cheeks for the cold bite of winter. So imagine the young girl's mingled curiosity and shock when he wordlessly wrapped the fabric around his pale neck.
"...It's warm."
And as she stood there watching him walk away, Tifa could not help but smile softly to herself. Whether it had been his intentions or not, those simple two words had been enough validation for her.
