Dedicated to: Minato and Mei ♥ They'll be the death of each other

For as long as she remembered, ever since the day they met, Mei and Minato had always celebrated their birthdays together. Both of their families had always been close, tied together by fate as some would say. And the simple fact that a mere three days separated their dates of birth only solidified that belief.

So every winter, when the air in Fire Country was just a bit crisper, cooler, Namikaze and Sarutobi alike gathered together along the riverbank to share in the festivities. Another year of life and experience. Another year of possibilities and promise. This one in particular had great cause for celebration.Minato had graduated from the Academy at the young age of ten, and was now studying under the instructions of the infamous Jiraya, one of the Legendary Sannin and one of her father's prized pupils. A great source of pride, indeed.

But while Mei could not be more happy for Minato and his accomplishments, the shift in his attitude in regards to... everyone needed a bit of an adjustment. And a dose of clarity to pull him down from his self-proclaimed pedestal.

So if anyone were to ask, Mei would have said with the utmost confidence that, yes, indeed. Minato had deserved to have that slice of birthday cake shoved into his face. And that even though, seconds later, the end result of such an action was for the two of them to fall head-over-heels into the water, it had been well worth it. Just to see the humbled grin on his face when they both resurfaced in a fit of laughter.
