'...You will live a long life, outlasting most everyone you know...'
Quietly, she had watched as Tenten's eyes slowly widened in shock. In horror. And Mei remembered initially wondering just why her little daughter seemed so terrified. She was a smart young girl, wise beyond her years for one of seven. With their entire family deeply rooted into the profession -- closely tied with the village they protected -- both Mei and Shirou had made sure from the beginning that the young girl understood the value of life and what it meant to be a shinobi. As the youngest of their clan, she would be expected to outlast them all. Because surely the young would live and survive longer than the old.
But sometimes, as is the tendency, the youth and innocence of children are forgotten. Because in the life of a shinobi, there can be no such thing as childhood. Just the honor and pride that comes with serving one's village. The death and destruction that walks hand in hand with fulfilling that duty.
It was from there that her daughter's fixation with divinity began. Seasons passed and years ticked by like it normally did. And in the years that followed, Mei could only watch in silence as Tenten's obsession, her curse, continued to grow and grow until one day...it had molded into her daily life. Into her personality as a novel quirk. Or so her companions had believed.
If only they knew... It was not out of curiosity that her darling Tenten constantly referred to the cards and stars to divine the future...but out of fear of losing everyone she held dear.
