Inquiries for a Lost Sister

Title: Inquiries for a Lost Sister
Type: Poetry
Prompt: Have a conversation with a person you normally can't talk to in real life.
Warning(s): None
Disclaimer: Poem written by [livejournal.com profile] tao_empress and should not be submitted stating otherwise.
Notes: ...Yeah, this one is a little personal. That's really all you need to know.
Dedicated to: A sister I would have never gotten a chance to meet, no matter what the circumstances.

I’ve loved you all my life
Even though we’ve never met
Is that alright?
Does that make sense?
Do you even care?

Your soul was taken away from the world
Before I existed
All I know is a name, a date
From your certificate of death
(How would that even be possible when you were never even born?)

I often wonder what you would have been
Who you would have looked like
Would you have dimples like me and mom?
Slim fingers too small to be real?

I know it makes no difference now
But I’m sorry
I wish that you could have lived
I wish I could have gotten the chance
How different things would be

The only reason I’m here is because you’re not
Would she still have had me if you survived?
Mom wanted a girl so much
And I’ve always wanted a sister

Would you have loved me too?
Do you hate me now?
For living when you could not?
I guess I’ll never know until I join you

Will you recognize me?
Will I you?

Will I ever get the answers to my question?
I suppose I’ll find out once I finally cross that divide
Between the living and the dead

Just know that I miss you
You, the one I never knew
