It was infuriating, It was disgraceful. But most importantly, it had been the last straw.

Watching Neji die and being helpless to save him had been hard enough without having to fight the urge to run full force towards the masked mastermind behind this war. To watch as her honored and beloved teammate was resurrected and reanimated back to life - to watch as he was forced to battle for a cause he'd died to prevent - brought her to the limits of her patience.

In that moment, something inside of Tenten snapped.

Not that the kunoichi believed she would be successful in her assault, or that she would even get close enough to execute it. Rest assured, there had been no thought placed in the monstrous weapons she pulled from her arsenal, then; no consideration in unleashing the most deadly of tricks usually reserved for last resort plans. The kunoichi was simply reacting in the most violent of fashions. Because in that moment, she just wanted him to hurt as much as she did. After everything Madara (or Tobi or Obito - whoever the hell he was) had put them through, she wanted that much.

In a way, maybe he had already, at that was the point of this deadly game of war. Tenten didn't really much care for the reasons. Just the end results.

And it was likely that the kunoichi would have died for that one impulse had it not been for the firm and familiar weight of Gai's hand gripping at her shoulder, stilling her attack with a single breath - silencing Lee's protest with one steady glance.

"My beautiful and precious flower, please," came his soft plea. And there was a softness around the edges of the old shinobi's eyes that touched on a lost feeling deep inside of her she thought dead. "Don't waste your youthful light on that."

"But Gai-sensei! He - " she started to protest.

"Is this how your honor our teammate, Tenten?" At that, the kunoichi stopped short, the words dying in her throat at the reprimand. And as the hurt started to show in her face, the Green Beast flashed her a comforting grin, softer than his usual hundred-watt smile but just as effective if not more. "Neji wouldn't want you to sacrifice yourself. Not even for him."

And despite finding little satisfaction in it, the weapons master knew those words to be right. He'd given his life so that they could survive - so that Hinata and Naruto could live on and finish this war. To run head-long into a suicidal fight would be to ignore that sacrifice. And as the nails of her fingers started to dig into the soft pads of her palm, the kunoichi felt the weight of Lee's hand fall onto her shoulder in support. Because he was just as passionate. Because the younger Green Beast shared in her grief.
